Don’t know your Enneagram Type?

Find out in a Typing Intervew!

What is a Typing Interview (and what is it not)?

Typing Interviews are essentially a conversation with a trained Enneagram Coach, in this case with Caroline McKinney, where you answer questions about yourself to help you discover your Enneagram type.

It’s not a calculation or diagnosis. In fact, the goal is not for Caroline to figure out your type, but to help you figure it out yourself!

The questions differ in every interview. Typically Caroline starts by first figuring out which center of intelligence your type is in (head, heart, or body), and then uses a process of elimination to narrow it down to 2-3 types that could be the right fit.

Once it’s narrowed down, Caroline reveals the possible types, asking questions and providing information about each one to give you the opportunity to “try on” each one and see which feels most at home.

Eventually, it becomes clear to both you and Caroline which one is the obvious fit. At that point, Caroline shares information about what it means to be that type, ways both the strengths and weaknesses might show up in your life, and ways you can use this knowledge to grow.

What happens after the interview?

Since the Enneagram is a complex and complicated system, it’s impossible to share all of the information, tips, and growth exercises in a single session. The best way to keep learning about the Enneagram, your type, and how to use it as a the incredible tool it is is to continue with 1-on-1 or group coaching sessions!

Caroline can share some of those options during or after the Typing Interview if you wish to proceed so you can continue learning about the Enneagram, your type, and how to use it as a tool for growth.

Why a Typing Interview instead of an online typing test?

Many people thnk oonline typing tests are the most accurate way to determine your type, but this is not true. They can be a useful tool for getting closer to your type, but they’re only about 65% accurate. The reason is because our types are determined by our core motivation, not simply our behaviors, so two people who seem similar on the outside might very well be different types because they’re coming at those behaviors from different motivations.

Typing Interviews provide more accuracy because they allow a trained Enneagram Coach to pick up on the nuances in your answers, ask you more questions to dive deeper into your answers, and pick up on nuances that an online test simply cannot.

What to expect in a Typing Interview?

Typing Interviews are typically done virtually and last 1 hour. In that time, Caroline will ask you questions about yourself to get a better sense of your motivations, thought and emotional patterns, behaviors, and other aspects of the way you see and interact with the world. It’s a safe space where honest reflection, openness, and even tangents and word vomiting are encouraged!

When answering the questions, allow yourself to observe what is coming up. The way you reflect answer questions is just as important as the answers themselves, so think less about the correct answer and more about what comes up when the question is asked.

Some types, simply by their nature, prefer to think about the question, then give the “best” or “correct” answer. That’s not the goal here. The goal is to receive the question, reflect honestly with yourself, and share your thought process with Caroline.

What do I need to do to prepare?

Nothing at all! Simply arrive at the Typing Interview in a comfortable, quiet place where you can dedicate a focused hour. The conversation is a safe space where you’re encouraged to reflect openly and honestly about your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and patterns. Simply come ready to reflect and chat!
